E-mail project with St. Mary's School for the Deaf, Buffalo, USA

TEACHER ENGLISH
It is a great project. The students are all very enthousiastic. They enjoy exchanging about their different cultures and personal lives. This project also helps to practise and improve their written expression. They believe it is great to have a common language to communicate and to broaden their world. The files with all kinds of different topics, vocabulary and idiom, are very helpful to guide their letters.

KHADIJA (14)
I liked it! In the beginning I was curious. Really? Were we really going to have contact with Deaf/ Hard of Hearing people that live at the other side of the world. When I sent my first letter, I was curious to the reaction. Who was I writing with? I was a little bit disappointed when the first letter was rather short. But, I pushed through. And later, it was funny to see how short letters became longer. It also was cool because the class we are having contact with, is about the same age as we are, and they are Hard of Hearing/ Deaf too. If we would go on with this project, I would not have a problem with it. In fact, I’d like it! It would be cool to meet them in real life. But if that happens, that is something we’ll see.

I had a very nice experience with the project, because I had contact with someone from America and that was an interesting country to learn about. My English also got better because of the mails and I liked the person who I was corresponding with, much too. I 'm also looking forward to keeping in touch with her. Since the very beginning and this day, it was an very awesome project, wich I enjoyed very much!

MEREL
It was a nice project because it was the first time to have contact with a deaf girl from another country. This contact was very exciting. I did my best with English. We had good contact. I am happy with Hend’s contact.

MACHIEL (15)
I had a very good experience. I have chatted with Mascha end Nelly. We made a lot of jokes and we told a lot about ourselves. We also sent photos. That was nice! I also learned a lot of the German school. This project is important to have contact with schools for the Deaf in other countries. I will never forget it.

This e-mail project is important, because I learned English. I was great to have e-mail contact with Kevin. He likes football. So do I. We always chat on msn, although it was sometimes difficult, because my English is not well done…

I like the e-mail project, because it is interesting to learn about other countries and to meet other deaf from the other countries. I think the e-mail project is important to improve the written English language.

I have had positive experiences with the e-mail project. I met new friends, because we got to know each other and have a lot of fun. I learned a lot of English. We are happy about the e-mail project with the students from Holland. I hope we will meet our friends from Holland.

I found the e-mail project interesting. I didn't like it when the Deaf students from Holland didn't send long e-mails. I do think it helps to get to know other Deaf pupils, event though I didn't meet new friends. I do think the e-mail project is useful to learn English.

Carina and I like to write e-mails to each other. Carina is Deaf. Carina's e-mails are funny. I get on with her well. I would like to get to know her and her friends from Holland better. It is the first time for me to meet someone from Holland.

I have experienced many things that were new to me. I have learned that your school is very big. I like the project good. English is good, but I haven't learned much English through the project. I haven't met new friends.

MASCHA (15)
We have had many good e-mails. They often make me laugh. We stay in touch and get to know more and more of each other. We chat on MSN. I have learned a lot of English through the e-mail project.

Merel and I get on with each other very well and have a lot of fun. We have known each other for a long time now. I understand what Merel writes to me. She has many new words for me. Sometimes we chat.

KEVIN
I think the e-mail project is useful to learn English. I learn English. My English is not very good. I think Rodin's English is very good. He also likes football. We also chat on MSN.

FARSAD
I find the e-mail project very interesting and it is nice to meet other pupils from Holland. This is very good. I want the e-mail project to go on. I think the e-mail project is good, yes it helps me! I have a new friend because in e-mail send I my friends.
